Each year foundations globally fund efforts to ensure the protection and promotion of human rights. Our latest key findings report, Advancing Human Rights: Update on Global Foundation Grantmaking provides a snapshot of the landscape of global human rights grantmaking in 2011.Written by Foundation Center and the International Human Rights Funders Group (IHRFG), in collaboration with the International Network of Women's Funds (INWF) and Ariadne -- European Funders for Social Change and Human Rights, the latest edition of Advancing Human Rights identified $1.7 billion in human rights funding from foundations in 34 countries awarded to more than 10,000 organizations around the world. Human rights work supported by foundations ranges from ensuring the right to peaceful assembly and association to supporting freedom from violence to promoting the right to education.
